THEORY : The origins of Malay greetings Assalamualaikum and Wasalamualaikum is not from the Malay language, but from Hokkien.

Knowing that Malaysia has a long history of cover ups and bribery, this isnt impossible.
As you know, there may have been converted Islams from China and all over the world if they settle in Malacca. Some may have held high-ranking positions.

So.. The thing is this. Basically, politicians and officials can be stereotyped as greedy and working together to cover up truths and facts. As a large proportion of the Chinese majority speaks hokkien, a situation like this may occur:

Official 1 took a huge sum of money as a bribe and is witnessed by Official 2. They then have a mutual agreement not to tell anyone. Whenever Official 1 meets Official 2, he reminds him of their agreement.. Like this.

Official 1 : "Wa Salah Lu Mai Kong.."
Official 2: "Wa Mai Kong Lu Salah.."

Sound familiar? Hahahahaha.
Conclusion? Bribery will never, ever, cease in Malaysia.
